CEO

I’ve read my fair share of grandiose, unverifiable, sales-pitchy internet bios, which is why I’m so hesitant to pen my own. But since you’ve clicked your way to this page, allow me to lead with this:

I value honesty.

I’ve made my fair share of mistakes.

On my journey from start-up CEO through multiple exit events, I’ve left money on the table, under-utilized resources missed opportunities, and occasionally moved too fast to smell the roses. We also had success. By learning those lessons and implementing change—both personal and company-wide—I had the privilege of leading Net Health from an Enterprise Value of $0.0 to $1B.

No one does it alone.

I’ve served on 13 corporate boards—8 professionally backed for-profits and 5 not-for-profits. I have advised 50+ tech companies, accelerators, and fund sponsors and directly participated in 16 buy/sell transactions, completing diligence on many more. Proxy fights, CEO removals, board reshuffling, and corporate wind-downs have all been in the mix. I am a first check investor in 10 new ventures, am active in seed funds and Private Equity. Put another way, I know the game because I’ve played it.

In 2022, a new path emerged.

Carnegie Mellon University contacted me about re-designing the class—Innovation and the Entrepreneurial Mindset. The course examines the principles of being a “Refounder” (based on my book Refounder: How Transformational Leaders Take What’s Broken and Make it Better (Per Capita, 2021)), and together my students and I analyze and take aim at existing companies that are ripe for significant change. It’s a similar playbook that we use at CoSage.

Wise leaders seek partners.

If you’d like a climbing partner, a co-marathoner who knows how to navigate the trials of transformation and growth, let’s talk. In my executive journey, I was fortunate to have sages who offered the direction and encouragement I needed to succeed. Now, through CoSage, we hope to offer that kind of experience to you.

I didn't do it alone. No leader does.

I love my wife and two boys. I love the city of Pittsburgh.

I nurse a passion for great coffee shared in great relationships. I'm committed to advancing social good through arts and food, particularly through initiatives like The Dinner StoriesFree The MusicSewLoCo and a few that are still top secret. I’m unafraid to talk about any of those things or the things those who partner with me love. In fact, I encourage it.

If you've made it this far, thank you. I may not hear from you at CoSage (it's not for everyone), but if we ever cross paths, if you ever want to share your journey with me, introduce yourself. We'll both be better for it.
